Well this weekend I was in a “kitty painting” mode! I finished up our lovely Banks:
Isn’t he so majestic and adorable? His mom can’t wait to get him home now.
So, since I was still in the mood to paint kitties I decided to paint two more! The first one here is an orange kitty.
One thing I have been trying as I do this challenge is to not “sketch” everything out beforehand. Generally, when I’m preparing a painting I sketch the whole piece out first. I do this, in pencil, directly on the canvas. Now, obviously that has worked for quite a number of years. So why reinvent the wheel you might ask?
Well, following a sketch often restricts me to those lines. I would like the freedom to be a bit more spontaneous and go where the paint leads me.
So, with this challenge, I am learning to paint with minimal sketching.
Here is what the orange kitty looked like before with a minimal sketch. I have the shapes, but all the details are left up to me when I paint! While this orange kitty doesn’t have all the stunning detail that Banks does, I love the painterly look!
Tomorrow I’ll show you the other kitty!
Until then I’ll leave you with this:
