“Smelling the Flowers”

Painting 19! This one is the other kitty. This kitty looked as if it were simply sitting in the sun smelling the flowers! Honestly I wonder if cats do enjoy the fragrance of roses and lavender. Do they smell them and think, these are good smells?

You know, there are days I wish for a simpler life. To do nothing but sit and smell the flowers, content in my existence. I think our stress and rushing around is what sets us apart from the animal kingdom. We’re always thinking about tomorrow or the next month, year, etc.

A cat doesn’t do any of that. They don’t worry about where their next meal will come from. If they are outdoor cats, they will hunt down their food. If they are indoors, like my guy, they will sit and cry until someone makes sure their bowl has enough food in it. (Honestly, if the he can see the bottom, even a tiny bit, he’s complaining)!

The stress and worry of tomorrow ruins my present moment I think. If a cat is tired, he takes a nap. If he is hungry, he eats. He doesn’t worry about getting fat if he eats. He doesn’t worry about not getting “things” done if he takes a nap. He doesn’t stress at all. Instead he lives in the moment and basks in the sunlight of the present.

I think we’d all be happier if we did that too. Obviously, we can’t do that 24 hours a day like a cat can. But taking a few minutes here or there to just BE. Read the book, if only for 30 minutes. Walk through the garden and smell the roses, if only for 15 minutes. Sit in the sun, letting it kiss our faces and just “be”, even if we are only allowed 5 minutes of stillness.

Find time today to just ENJOY being alive. I know I am going to try! Even if I only have 5 minutes to do so!

With that I’ll leave you with a word from Eckhart Tolle about peace and spiritual enlightenment:

“I have lived with several Zen masters- all of them cats”

It is so true too! They are little Zen masters.

Well until tomorrow, take that minute, 5 minutes, an hour, etc. today to find a bit of peace. Live in the moment, if only for a moment!

Oh and remember, all of my paintings are listed on eBay! Go check them out Here!
